MAP™ for Better Birth - Prenatal Structural Assessment and Corrections

MAP™ for Better Birth - Prenatal Structural Assessment and Corrections is a method used during pregnancy that supports the baby's optimal position in the womb through assessing the body's structural balance and applying gentle corrections.

The method was created by Debra McLaughlin, master midwife and craniosacral therapist, based on the observation that the baby's in-utero position is connected to the shape of the uterus, and the shape of the uterus is influenced by the balance and condition of the surrounding tissues.

During pregnancy, the body goes through major changes: the pelvis adapts to the growing baby, the muscles and ligaments soften, and posture shifts. If earlier injuries, postural imbalances, or muscle tension create imbalance in the body, this can cause discomfort for the mother and can also affect the baby's position.

The aim of MAP™ for Better Birth - Prenatal Structural Assessment and Corrections is to identify these imbalances and gently support the body's natural return to balance. As the body's structure becomes more balanced, the baby also has more space and a better opportunity to move into an ideal position for birth.

It is important to emphasize that this method does not aim to forcefully "turn" the baby. MAP™ for Better Birth - Prenatal Structural Assessment and Corrections supports the body's balance, which may naturally help the baby settle into a more optimal position.

MAP™ for Better Birth - Prenatal Structural Assessment and Corrections is a gentle approach that builds on the body's own intelligence. The goal is not forceful intervention, but helping the body rediscover its most supportive balance.

That balance can help create enough room for the baby to engage ideally and can support the natural process of birth.

How can MAP™ for Better Birth - Prenatal Structural Assessment and Corrections help?

  • restore structural balance in the pelvis and body
  • release muscle tension and restrictions in movement
  • support the baby's optimal birth position
  • increase the chance of natural turning in case of breech or transverse position
  • ease lower back, hip, and pelvic pain
  • prepare the body for the birth process
  • support a smoother course of labor

When can it be worth booking a MAP™ for Better Birth - Prenatal Structural Assessment and Corrections session?

  • if you feel pain or tension in your body
  • if the baby's position is not ideal
  • in case of breech or transverse position
  • if you would like to support your body's preparation for birth
  • if you want to help maintain your body's natural balance during pregnancy

How does the assessment work?

The session begins with a detailed structural assessment, during which we look at, among other things:

- posture
- the position and movement of the pelvis
- the balance of the muscles and joints
- tensions and asymmetries present in the body

After the assessment, gentle manual techniques, positions, and simple movement practices help the body return to a more balanced state.

During the session, you can also learn movements and exercises that are safe to continue at home.
